Will Smith and Joel Edgerton Appear in Photos for Bright

Netflix’s new film Bright came right out of the gate last month and it certainly surprised a lot of viewers seeing this fantasy cop drama being made. Now we have three new stills from David Ayer’s next film as we see both stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton locked and loaded.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we got our hands on some new stills from the upcoming sci-fi/fantasy film Bright. In most of the photos, we find Will Smith’s Scott Ward as he patrols the streets of LA with his orc partner Nick Jackoby, who is played by Joel Edgerton. The film is certainly different from David Ayer’s other films as he mixes the real streets of LA with some fantasy elements. Smith spoke with the outlet on his character’s psyche, saying, “I’m getting ridiculed by other members of the police force, in their interpretation, I’m giving him a fair shot, and I should really just be trying to get him off of the force.”

While Ward has some problems with his new partner, Edgerton’s Jakoby faces a different kind of struggle as a cop. Describing his character’s challenges as the first orc cop, Joel said:

I am the first orc, under a diversity program, to be allowed into the police force. I’m under investigation already for an incident that involved an orc who should have been apprehended but managed to escape. The feeling is that I looked after my own kind first and neglected to do my job as a result.

Regarding the plot, we follow these two cops as they navigate this world where magic is illegal where they answer a simple call that gets more complicated and leads them to “a discovery of a magical relic, an artifact of the Dark Lord’s war against humanity.” Not much more is revealed, but Edgerton does tease that this case will test their limits, thus taking these two men slowly start respecting each other. “It’s the forming of a trust relationship between us, I think we are hopefully on our way to becoming friends.”
