Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth to Return in Netflix Film

Brad Pitt is slated to come back to reprise his role from Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood in a Netflix film to be directed by David Fincher.

It was recently revealed that Brad Pitt will be reuniting with his Fight Club director if all goes as planned regarding a Netflix project exploring the further exploits of Cliff Booth, the character that was Pitt’s Oscar-winning role. Pitt played that supporting part to perfection in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood which was a huge financial and critical success.

Fincher recently directed Michael Fassbender in Netflix’s 2023 action film, The Killer, and before that, the director made Mank, so Fincher has found a place to call home (for now) at Netflix. It was deemed a potential April Fool’s joke that Fincher would be directing Tarantino’s script for a follow-up project to Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Several sources, though, revealed that the news was, in fact, legitimate.

Pitt worked with Fincher several times from Se7en to Fight Club to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. While the middle film under-performed at the box-office, the other two were huge hits for the pair. Playing Cliff Booth brought Pitt an Oscar for his work in 2019’s Tarantino film, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, so it’s only natural the actor would want to reprise his role in the follow-up project that is supposedly forthcoming.

Tarantino had recently announced that he had pulled the plug on The Movie Critic to be his 10th film as a director. That mystery project of his seems to be lost in limbo (for now) as the acclaimed Tarantino searches for a smart project to be his “final” film. Pitt’s Booth character was supposed to have been a part of The Movie Critic and since that project has been axed, fans of Pitt are anxious to see if the Fincher film will actually come into fruition. It could be using material from the script of The Movie Critic since that story featured Pitt’s Booth character.

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood co-starred Julia Butters who can be seen in the highly anticipated upcoming sequel from Disney, Freakier Friday. Mikey Madison, who recently won an Oscar for Best Actress for Anora, had a small role in the 2019 Tarantino film as well. These stars are unlikely to return for the new Fincher picture given their tremendous recent successes, however. There are also very slim odds that the lead of the 2019 movie, Leonardo DiCaprio, will be joining Pitt in the Netflix film. Still, anything can happen.

Netflix has found a perfect new project for Fincher in this spin-off of the 2019 Tarantino movie. Let it also be said that Tarantino also wrote a book based on his film, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. While Fincher’s new project, if it happens, sound very prestigious, it will take a minor miracle to get this film completed perfectly given all the plot threads from the first movie, at least some of which would have to be carried over into the reboot.
