DIE, MY LOVE (2025): Jennifer Lawrence’s Next Oscar-Worthy Role Garners a $23 Million-Plus Deal at Cannes

Mubi Picks Up Rights to New Jennifer Lawrence Film at Cannes
Mubi has solidified a deal of somewhere between $23-$24 million to secure the rights to the new Jennifer Lawrence film, Die, My Love.
Robert Pattinson may be the lead actor opposite Jennifer Lawrence in the new movie, Die, My Love, but the Oscar buzz is leaning closer towards Lawrence’s performance than Pattinson’s. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. Mubi has picked up the rights to this new movie and has paid a huge sum of close to $24 million to secure said rights to this Oscar-bait project which is going to be playing on 1500 screens upon its release which could help the film pick up traction at the box-office. Mubi released Demi Moore’s Oscar-nominated horror movie, The Substance, last year and the studio did a pretty great job getting awards and acclaim for that picture. History should repeat itself with the new film as well.
This new movie will put Mubi on the map as a big-time player given their successful acquisition of this prestige project while it marks the biggest acquisition thus far for the studio from a financial standpoint. Mubi beat out heavy-hitters such as Apple and Neon to secure the rights to this picture which has critics buzzing about Lawrence’s chances at a second Oscar-win for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. She previously won for 2012’s dramedy, Silver Linings Playbook.
In this film, Lawrence plays a struggling mother who is hit hard by depression. This picture is directed by the always formidable Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin, You Were Never Really Here). Meanwhile, the supporting cast features veteran performers such as Nick Nolte and Sissy Spacek whose presence in the new film is certain to help stir up interest in the already fascinating and well-reviewed project. It currently stands at an 88% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes after it premiered at Cannes.
If Lawrence gets the Oscar nod for this role, it would be her fifth nomination to date. If she wins, it would be her second win, as previously stated. This is the type of complex role which gives Lawrence the opportunity to display the brilliance that she is known for in her dramatic roles dating back to the acclaimed Winter’s Bone. With Mubi’s marketing muscle behind it, Lawrence could get as far as Demi Moore did with her work in the brilliantly conceived film, The Substance, which came very close to securing Moore an Academy Award for Best Actress. Lawrence could go all the way with this role and hear her name called on Oscar night for what critics are suggesting is her most powerful film work to date. This film received a nine-minute ovation at Cannes at its conclusion.
