Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey Return for Enchanted Sequel

Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey are returning to the screen together in Disney+’s Disenchanted, the new sequel to the 2007 classic Enchanted.Alan Shankman who helmed the original movie (which combined animation and live-action) is also directing the new picture. Shankman directed the film versions of Hairspray and Rock of Ages and is no stranger to directing movies based on popular musicals. This is not his first sequel, however. He previously directed Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

Disenchanted is a long-awaited sequel which took some time to finally make it into production but it’s happening and fans of the 2007 movie couldn’t be more excited.

Patrick Dempsey, better known as Dr. McDreamy to his “Grey’s Anatomy” fans, is doing something different in the new sequel. According to People, will be singing in this new movie. In his role as lawyer Robert in Enchanted, his character did not sing. Dempsey is new to singing and dancing. Fans of the original will be looking forward to this upcoming movie to see Dempsey’s move into uncharted (for him) territory.

Amy Adams who won accolades for her portrayal of Princess Giselle in the first movie has received several Oscar nominations since playing the role and has become one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actresses. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her work in the 2007 movie in which she sang and danced. “That’s How You Know” is the most popular song performance from the film in which she danced through the park singing about how one knows true love is genuine.

James Marsden and Idina Menzel, co-stars of the 2007 film are also going to be on board.  Their fun roles as Prince Edward and Nancy will be a welcome addition to the new sequel. Maya Rudolph of “Saturday Night Live” fame is also going to be featured in a supporting role.  Yvette Nicole Brown & Jayma Mays also will co-star in surprise villain roles, as reported by People and AsiaOne.

The seven dwarfs from Snow White and The Seven Dwarves will also make a major appearance in the film according to AsiaOne.

For those who have not seen the original film, it featured Adams as Princess Giselle from Andalasia (a cartoon land) who was looking for her Prince. She ended up entering the real live-action world and encountered a no-nonsense lawyer named Robert (Dempsey) who winded up being more interesting to Giselle than Prince Edward (Marsden) from her home town. It was a fun film that earned a 93% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

Disenchanted is set 10 years after the original and in it, according to IMDB, Giselle questions her happiness and turns the fictional place of Andalasia “upside down.”
