Disney Announces Nine Star Wars TV Series, Two Films, Indy 5, and More

At The Walt Disney Company‘s 2020 Investor Day, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that in the next few years they will be rolling out nine new Star Wars TV series, two theatrical Star Wars films, and films Indiana Jones 5, and Children of Blood & Bone. The Willow TV series was also announced but word of that had leaked with recent Willow casting announcements.

James Mangold directing the last Indiana Jones film is exciting news (especially after the quality of Logan) as is Patty Jenkins being chosen to direct the next Star Wars film, entitled Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

Of all the TV shows, of all the projects in general, the project that I am most fervent about is Ahsoka. Her live-action intro into Star Wars during The Mandalorian this season and I am looking forward to how her storyline is continued. What I am most looking forward to is how the Veil of The Force is used to correct “certain mistakes” that have taken place since Disney took ownership of Lucasfilm. The Veil of The Force is featured prominently in the logo for Ahsoka and it can be no coincidence.

Among the projects for Disney+ are “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” starring Ewan McGregor with Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader, and two series set in the Mandalorian era from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni: “Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka,” a series featuring the fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano.

Additional new titles announced for Disney+ include “Andor,” “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” “Star Wars: Visions,” “Lando,” “The Acolyte,” and “A Droid Story.” The studio is also revisiting “Willow” in a new series with Warwick Davis returning in the title role.

The next feature film in the Star Wars franchise, releasing in December 2023, will be “Rogue Squadron,” which will be directed by Patty Jenkins of the “Wonder Woman” franchise. The next installment of the “Indiana Jones” franchise directed by James Mangold, a Star Wars feature film by writer/director Taika Waititi and “Children of Blood & Bone,” based on Tomi Adeyemi’s New York Times bestselling novel, round out the feature-film slate.
