Joaquin Phoenix Doctor Strange

Joaquin Phoenix Exits From Doctor Strange. It was only about three months back when rumors started swirling that Joaquin Phoenix is being considered to play Doctor Strange in Marvel’s next film. Unfortunately, negotiations fell through and now Marvel is looking for another actor to play him.

Deadline first reported that the three-time Academy Award nominated actor wouldn’t get to play the Master of the Mystical Arts, but the hunt continues for an actor to play the lead. Other actors being considered to play Doctor Strange includes Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto, and a few others. Rumors online say that Ethan Hawke made a deal to play the character, but that’s all it is, a rumor.

In the comics, Doctor Strange follows Stephen Strange, a brilliant neurosurgeon who gets into a car accident that causes him to lose precision in his hands. He goes on a quest to regain his surgical skills, but is unaware of the path that will cause him to become the most powerful magician on Earth.

Doctor Strange was mentioned in Captain America: Winter Soldier, making it known that the mastery of magic will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shooting for the film will begin in May 2015 at Pinewood-Shepperton studios in the UK, so Marvel still has time to find someone to wear the magical cape. The film will be directed by Scott Derrickson and released on July 8, 2016. So who do you guys think will play Doctor Strange?
