DREDD 2: Sign Official Online Petition to Make Sequel Film a Reality

Judges Dredd

Dredd 2 Petition. An official petition is now online to persuade Lionsgate into making Dredd 2, a sequel to Pete TravisDredd (2012). “Dredd was released on 7 September 2012 in the United Kingdom and on 21 September 2012 worldwide. Critics were generally positive about the film’s visual effects, casting and action, while criticism focused on a perceived lack of the satirical elements that are found in the source comic and on excessive violence. Despite the positive critical response, the film earned just over $36 million at the box office on an estimated budget of $45 million.” Dredd‘s box office take caused the film to be considered a bomb. It was later reported that a Dredd sequel was dead in the water and that a possible follow-up short film was on the way.

The film’s DVD and Blu-ray sales have turned that situation around, much like they did from Firefly.

On Dredd‘s home media sales:

Dredd was released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download on 8 January 2013 in North America, and 14 January in the UK. The Blu-ray edition contains the 2D and 3D versions of the film and a digital copy…During its first week on sale in the UK, Dredd was the number 1 selling DVD and Blu-ray. During the week of its release in North America, it was the number 1 selling DVD and Blu-ray with approximately 650,000 units sold, and Blu-ray units accounting for nearly 50% of that figure. It was also the best-selling digital download for that period. Sales spiked in the United Kingdom in June 2013, following a reported rumor that it could influence DNA Films’ decision to pursue a sequel.

Following the home media sales, “2000AD, the publishers of the Judge Dredd comic book”, have picked up the baton and lead the sequel charge  They are the masterminds behind the petition to get Dredd 2 made and the Facebook page heralding their efforts. Over 10,000 people have already put their signature on the petition and over 30,000 people have liked the Facebook page to show their support. Have you? Now is the time to make your voices heard and to make Dredd 2, or whatever the sequel will be called, a reality.
