Emma Watson Reveals She Almost Quit HARRY POTTER Franchise

Emma Watson Close Up Older

Emma Watson On When She Thought About Quitting Harry Potter

During the HBO Max special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, Emma Watson will discuss how she once wanted to leave her role in the films.

Emma Watson played the role of Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise, but things weren’t always perfect for her while portraying the character. Now, on a highly anticipated special for HBO Max, Watson brings to light some of her concerns during the time she played the much-loved character of Hermione. It seemingly wasn’t easy for Watson to carry on until the end of the movie series. She almost walked away from the movie series during the time the fifth picture in the franchise was being made.

The director of one of the best films in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, David Yates, talks about Watson in the reunion show and how the acclaimed actress almost made the choice to leave the supremely popular movie series. Watson responded with the admission of feelings of loneliness and her being “scared” at the time. Things were admittedly happening very quickly for the young star as one sequel after another was coming out back-to-back.

One of Watson’s co-stars, Rupert Grint, also had flirtations with quitting the film series although he and Emma never discussed it at the time. It seems both stars were wrestling with feelings that few knew about at the time the hit movies were raking in loads of money at the worldwide box-office. These feelings may have been natural for young actors to have at the time when they are learning their craft and making one of the most popular movie franchises of all-time. Some self-doubt was bound to get in the way of the artistic process of creating the Harry Potter films. At least for Watson and Grint it seems.

This Harry Potter reunion sports a get-together that includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Gary Oldman, Bonnie Wright, Matthew Lewis, director Chris Columbus and the one and only Harry Potter, himself, Daniel Radcliffe. That’s just to name the “biggies.” It is also noteworthy that series creator J.K. Rowling is not an active participant in the reunion, however, and is only shown in archive footage.

Emma Watson has become one of the most versatile actresses of her generation. She has gone from starring in a Sofia Coppola movie like The Bling Ring to Disney’s remake of Beauty and the Beast to the Greta Gerwig film version of Little Women seamlessly. Watson constantly gives top-notch performances in her films and to think it all started with her role as Hermione. We’re glad Watson held on, for sure.
