Brian Cox Will Direct Upcoming Movie For Lionsgate

Brian Cox will both be starring in and directing a forthcoming movie about Scotland called Glenrothan.

A new film about Glenrothan, a town located in Scotland, is set to proceed further in its development. It will be directed by one of the best character actors working today. You’ve seen him on the hit show “Succession” and many famous films over the years. It’s Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Brian Cox.

Acclaimed actor Brian Cox is returning to his native Scottish roots to tell the story featured in the new film which will be put into production gear by the studio Lionsgate. Glenrothan is going to be about a couple of distant brothers who get together in Scotland some forty years after their separation. They parted ways upon their mother’s death years back as one of the brothers had some violent interaction with their father. One brother left for America and, in the film, he will reunite with his sibling four decades later against the backdrop of their family business which is the successful local distillery referred to in the film’s title.

Brian Cox is a true actor’s actor. He is most prominently known by movie buffs as Edward Norton’s no-nonsense dad from the criminally underrated 2002 Spike Lee film, The 25th Hour. In that movie, Cox gave a concluding monologue for the motion picture record books and the speech he delivered was nothing short of pure poetry thanks in large part to Cox’s capable line delivery.

Scottish actor/writer David Ashton will be writing the script for Glenrothan alongside Jeff Murphy. Cox is slated to direct and star in the project, as previously mentioned.

These days, Cox is mostly regarded for his high caliber work on “Succession” which is about a family fighting to take over an entertainment company from their health-challenged dad (played to perfection by Cox).

Cox had worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has done period pieces such as the films Rob Roy and Braveheart but he won the most acclaim when he played King Lear.

If those roles weren’t enough, Cox also has the distinction of having played the role of Hannibal Lecter before Anthony Hopkins did in the 1986 William L. Petersen movie, Manhunter.

Cox fans will be eagerly awaiting Glenrothan to see just how well Cox does behind the camera given all his success in front of it. Can Cox garner as much attention directing as he has for his spellbinding performances over the years? Time will tell when the new dramatic picture goes into production and is eventually released by Lionsgate.
