HANCOCK 2: Will Smith Hints That a Sequel to His 2008 Action Picture Could be Brewing

Hancock 2 Could Be on the Horizon
Will Smith has suggested that a Hancock 2 could be looming about even after some 17 years have passed since the original film, Hancock.
Not only is a sequel to Will Smith’s ordinary hero movie, Hancock, apparently in the works, the troubled actor who bounced back on his feet has suggested that Zendaya will be approached for a part in the potential sequel which could arise in the not-too-distant future.
While Smith revealed that there is an idea for a Hancock 2, little more is known about how the movie will further the story of the flawed superhero that Smith played in the first picture. Peter Berg directed the original which was a surprise summer movie hit despite mixed reviews back in 2008. Smith played the role of a superhero with amnesia who drank while trying to figure out his past. Oscar winner Charlize Theron was in it as was Jason Bateman.
In 2009, the prospects of a Hancock sequel were quite appealing. These days, some people have forgotten about Smith’s superhero picture, though. Since Smith seems to have a compelling idea which would bring the character he plays back into the limelight, Theron has seemed to remain positive about the idea of a sequel and she would love to be part of it.
Hancock grossed $227 million domestically and $401 million internationally yet is one of Smith’s least well-reviewed titles. This old 2008 film holds a mere 42% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received just a “B+” CinemaScore grade. While that mark isn’t bad, it’s hardly on a par with the “A” grades the Bad Boys films got. Luckily, it’s not as bad as the “C+” that Smith’s 1999 turkey, Wild Wild West, earned.
Zendaya is fresh off Oscar bait projects such as Challengers and Dune: Part Two. While the former film came up short with Academy Award nominations, the latter one was showered with love from the Academy, especially in the technical categories. Hancock 2 could be another blockbuster to add to Zendaya’s resume although her part in the action isn’t even known at the present time. We just know she’s being approached for a role in it.
Before you wince at the thought of a Hancock sequel making it big, remember Smith took a large gap of time off in-between a couple of the Bad Boys movies and his star power could just catapult the Hancock follow-up to success and get people unfamiliar with the first film watching it. Peter Berg could be directing the sequel as he was the one originally hoping to helm it, but time will tell if he will, indeed, be the principal one behind the camera for Hancock 2.
