Helen Mirren to Be Awarded Prestigious Honor

Helen Mirren has been selected to receive the 2023 American Cinematheque Award which will be given to the actress on November 4th.

Helen Mirren ages like fine wine and then some. She’s currently on the big screen in the box-office hit, Fast X, and has appeared in countless prestige movies over the course of the last two decades. Her most notable role is the one which earned her the Oscar for Best Actress in The Queen from 2006. She adds dignity even to respectable failures like 2016’s box-office disaster, Collateral Beauty. Now, Mirren is set to receive the 37th American Cinematheque Award and rightfully so.

While Mirren is an EGOT winner, the “G” (for Golden Globe) was curiously missing from a recent Deadline article which cited that the actress will be receiving the aforementioned American Cinematheque award. Deadline named the actress’s winning television roles for the “Emmy” and her Tony winning award but failed to cite that the actress won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Dramatic Film for the work she turned in with 2006’s The Queen.

Mirren is going to be seen in the upcoming film, Golda, from Bleecker Street Films. That film is set for release in theaters on August 25, 2023. While there have not been many great reviews from those who have seen it so far, the movie is expected to showcase Mirren at her very best nevertheless. Mirren’s leading roles are always something to look forward to.

When Mirren starred with Ian McKellen in 2019’s The Good Liar, the results were bordering on fabulous. That film made just $33 million worldwide (and a good but not great “B” CinemaScore grade) but found a huge home audience over the pandemic. This film had many surprises and wowed the majority of its viewers. That picture is an example of a smaller film that found success thanks to Mirren’s forceful presence in it.

Recently, Mirren played in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and she was one of the best things about the would-be blockbuster movie that eventually fizzled out at the box-office. Mirren was also great in the Red films which are among her most well-received roles by mainstream viewers.

Don’t think that some of Mirren’s films not doing well at the box-office has any impact on the appeal of the actress herself. Mirren always emerges unscathed from bad films because of her genuine dedication to her craft. A movie is almost always better because of Mirren’s very presence in the project. Mirren is the essence of great screen acting and is certainly well deserving of the honor which will be bestowed on her late this fall. You can catch her these days on the big screen in Fast X which is out now, Barbie (which is due out on July 21st) and Golda which will be out later this summer.
