LCD Soundsystem Song from White Noise Gets Critics Choice Nod

LCD Soundsystem‘s new song featured in the end credits of Noah Baumbach‘s White Noise received a nomination for Best Original Song.

Whether you like Noah Baumbach’s new movie White Noise or not, there’s no denying the last several minutes of the movie (the film’s credits) are the best part of it. Those ending credits would be a lot less terrific without the song by LCD Soundsystem, “New Body Rhumba.” That song deservedly landed a Best Song nomination for the upcoming Critics Choice Awards. When the movie comes to Netflix on December 30th, the song is going to have viewers rocking in their living rooms.

One of the best cinematic set pieces of all-time is showcased at the end of White Noise. Characters and extras from the film, including Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig’s characters in the picture, go shopping at a grocery store. The song, “New Body Rhumba” plays and the crowd in the grocery store move and groove in ways that must be seen to be appreciated. It is one of the most memorable sequences to grace the silver screen in years and is the highlight of any and all movie scenes this year when taken individually.

While critical response to the film White Noise has been decidedly mixed, “New Body Rhumba” has universal appeal and truly deserves an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. White Noise holds a 64% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes but if you take the end credits scene by itself, it may have a 100% approval rating thanks in large part to the song by LCD Soundsystem. Netflix has promoted the song well and the Critics Choice nomination for “New Body Rhumba” is the reward of all the hard work of the team behind the end credits scene and music for White Noise.

It’s quite possible that people may skip to the end of White Noise several times on Netflix whether they’ve watched the film in its entirety or not to see the supermarket sequence. The song repeats the word “super” quite a bit and that word ably captures all the fun aspects of the scene. The themes of the music for all it says about society are also quite intriguing.

If you can’t wait until the end of the month to see the supermarket-set ending credits of White Noise on Netflix, the film is playing in some cities throughout the country, including New York. Any movie Noah Baumbach makes is interesting but if you don’t like the movie (and it will certainly divide viewers), the reward at the end is the expertly choreographed supermarket scene featuring “New Body Rhumba” by LCD Soundsystem. It’s an amazing song worthy of its Critics Choice nomination.
