HOLD ON TO YOUR ANGELS: Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley Set to Re-Team for Intense Love Story

Hamnet Stars Set to Reunite

Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley of Hamnet are re-teaming in a new Louisiana-set love story titled, Hold on to Your Angels.

Jessie Buckley won the Best Actress Oscar for her work in the emotionally devastating, Hamnet, but her co-star, Paul Mescal, got snubbed even for a nomination from the Academy for his powerful turn in that dramatic film. Now, the pair is going to be working together again on an intense love story from Benh Zeitlin titled Hold on to Your Angels. Nominations from the Academy for both stars could well happen this time out.

Benh Zeitlin is known best as a filmmaker for his distinct work on Beasts of the Southern Wild and Wendy. This new project, Hold on to Your Angels, is the type of complex dramatic movie that fires up conversations afterwards. Buckley is no stranger to intense movies and is coming off her work in the Maggie Gyllenhaal movie, The Bride, which did, unfortunately, underwhelm at the box-office despite its lofty ambitions. Mescal has been doing emotionally deep films for quite some time now and is best known for his Oscar-nominated role in the powerful 2022 film, Aftersun.

Hold on to Your Angels is set to move forward in February of 2027 as it is making an appearance on the Cannes market. Benh Zeitlin is the perfect director for a film of this scope. In South Louisiana the new film will be set, and Mescal will play an outlaw who falls for Buckley’s shepherd character. This film will dig deep inside the two characters the performers will be playing and promises to be a movie that could garner nominations for its production team just as well as for its leading actors.

Buckley won the Oscar in a year where Rose Byrne delivered the performance of her career in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Buckley and Mescal are both unafraid to take risks with the film projects that they choose. Hold on to Your Angels is just the sort of prestige Oscar-bait picture that could catapult them to official movie stardom, if they weren’t there already.

Some people blamed The Bride‘s box-office disappointment on Maggie Gyllenhaal’s grand and bold vision to re-work themes from The Bride of Frankenstein. Buckley still managed to overcome any negativities steered towards that film and emerged from it completely unscathed as an actress and as an artist.

Mescal’s lack of an Oscar nod for Hamnet may have simply been because of the fact that he was pushed for Best Supporting Actor when he was, indeed, a lead actor in it. We will reveal more details on Hold on to Your Angels as they become available.
