Kevin Costner Close Up

Kevin Costner Will Be Returning in Yet Another Western

A new Western from Kevin Costner called Horizon has just won the support of Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema as they have just partnered with the Oscar-winning film-maker.

“Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner is returning to his tested and true Western genre for the upcoming film Horizon. The Dances with Wolves star, Costner, will be starring in, co-writing and directing the new project which is going to be produced by Costner’s Territory Pictures. This picture will detail a 15-year period before and after the Civil War, according to sources. It is going to be a film of epic proportions about the American West. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema will be releasing the film upon its completion.

Costner recently made an appearance on this year’s Academy Awards introducing the Best Director Oscar and his speech on the program was both heartfelt and distinguished re-introducing the actor to the movie world which has mostly loved him throughout his very prestigious career. Though he had a misfire or two along the way with Waterworld and The Postman from the mid-to-late 1990’s coming to mind, Costner is an actor who has had tremendous success both in front of the camera and behind it with Westerns. He last directed Open Range in 2003.

It is to Costner’s credit that Westerns such as Dances with Wolves and to a slightly lesser extent, Open Range, are among his most loved films. Wyatt Earp from back in 1994 disappointed at the box-office but remains a project that showcased an all-star cast. Costner has carved out a very successful recent career with his work on “Yellowstone.”

Costner has had a share of movies that have flown under the typical mainstream viewer’s radar. It’s not that every project the acclaimed actor did in-between then and now wasn’t ambitious. On the contrary. Costner has sporadically had some quite ambitious films come out. His very entertaining political comedy, Swing Vote, from 2008 is certainly one of his most underappreciated movies. It even holds up 14 years later for its smart plot. Costner also starred in the absorbing 2014 dramatic picture, Black or White.

It is definitely Costner’s ability to command viewers’ attention throughout the years which has made him one of the most constantly successful actors. Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich seems quite excited to have teamed up with the always intriguing Costner for Horizon which remains one of the most noteworthy upcoming projects on the studio’s slate. Could Costner find himself up for another Oscar this time out? Don’t count out Costner who would give a wonderful acceptance speech if his previous speech giving talents are any indication.
