Jessica Chastain Wins Best Actress at Critics Choice Awards

Jessica Chastain has won in one of the most highly competitive categories at the Critics Choice Awards for her role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

Jessica Chastain followed her SAG award for Best Actress with a Critics Choice award this past Sunday night. The Best Actress category for roles in feature films in 2021 was probably the most competitive Best Actress category since the 1996 motion picture Best Actress race. That year, great performances such as Madonna in Evita, Courtney Love in The People vs. Larry Flynt and Debbie Reynolds in Mother were snubbed for Academy Award nominations. Frances McDormand went on to secure the Oscar for her work in Fargo that year. This year, it appears that Jessica Chastain has positioned herself as the front runner in an Oscar race which is certainly heating up.

Jessica Chastain has appeared in many great films. She has occasionally been nominated for Oscars as well for past performances. Chastain’s greatest performances include her work in films such as the acclaimed 2011 movie, The Help, where she played opposite Viola Davis and Emma Stone in a movie based on a hugely popular book and the real life inspired Kathryn Bigelow directed, Zero Dark Thirty. Davis, Stone and Bigelow all have Oscars and, now, with her inspired work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Chastain may finally grasp her own Academy Award.

As Tammy Faye Bakker in last year’s aforementioned gem, Chastain hit the ball out of the park and secured an Oscar nomination over hopefuls such as Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Jennifer Hudson (Respect) and newcomer Rachel Zegler (West Side Story). Now, with Chastain’s two recent wins at award ceremonies, it seems likely she could take home the Oscar gold she so rightfully deserves for her performance. Her makeup team also won a Critics Choice award as well for the 2021 film.

Chastain has stated she is out of her mind with “happiness” due to the securing of the Critics Choice award she just received this past Sunday night. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 27th and there is no other candidate that is securing the kind of front-runner status that Chastain has recently obtained. That’s not to say that Oscar doesn’t love an upset but judging by the compelling nature of Chastain’s work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, she stands a good chance at having her name called at the Oscars. Other nominees who could pull an upset include: Olivia Colman, Nicole Kidman and Kristen Stewart for their work in The Lost Daughter, Being the Ricardos and Spencer, respectively.
