Jimmy Kimmel Set to Host The Oscars Again

Jimmy Kimmel has been selected to host next year’s 96th Academy Awards which is set to air on March 10, 2024.

You have to hand it to Jimmy Kimmel. He certainly knows how to host the Oscars with style, personality and undeniable charisma. When 2017 brought one of the biggest disasters ever to (dis)grace the Academy Awards ceremony, Kimmel kept it fun and light. There was a sense that Kimmel was soothing audiences through his actions on the show that year. Last year, things ran so smoothly that Kimmel was invited back to host the next Academy Awards which will be coming up in March.

This is actually going to be the fourth time that Kimmel will be hosting this movie lover’s ceremony known as the Oscars. He has always given a calming sense to the procedures during the ceremonies he has hosted. In 2017, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway incorrectly announced La La Land as the Best Picture of the year. Kimmel didn’t panic, though. He hilariously asked, “Warren, what did you do?” Since that mishap turned out to be corrected, Kimmel emerged pretty much unscathed and, just last year, proved he could host the ceremony in a way that kept viewers totally entertained throughout.

Kimmel tends to have fun mentioning the Best Picture nominees in a clever way when he hosts. Last year, he pretended he knew the winners and said, “Best Picture is All Quiet on the Western Front.” Of course, the Best Picture was actually Everything Everywhere All at Once but Kimmel kept us on our toes as we wondered if he was telling us the truth or not throughout the whole entire telecast.

The recent actors’ strike and writers’ strike almost delayed next year’s ceremony. However, with the resolution of these strikes, it is now certain the show will go on and the Academy Awards will happen as planned. It’s possible that Kimmel will use the strikes as material in his telecast.

The news of Kimmel’s return to the Dolby Theatre to host the Oscars was met with overwhelming enthusiasm. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang were “thrilled” at the news of Kimmel’s return.

Some of the movies that should be in the running for the Oscars this year include: Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Air, Past Lives, The Color Purple, Priscilla, Barbie, Poor Things, American Fiction and Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse. It will be interesting to see how the writers of this year’s awards handle these titles and how Kimmel will incorporate them into his dialogue throughout the show.

It is expected that tense dramas Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon will dominate the awards this season so Kimmel has two movies with plenty of fodder for discussion that could find its way on the Oscars program next March!
