Amazon‘s The Last Tycoon to star Kelsey Grammer. Amazon has just released a list of pilots for this season, and among them is a one-hour drama based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last unfinished work, The Last Tycoon. The pilot also stars Matt

The Last Tycoon takes place in the 1930s, between the Great Depression and World War II. A dark time in world history, this period also represented the burgeoning of film as a business and an art form, in which the studio system ensured that studios had total control over their movies and their stars. The Last Tycoon tells the story of one such studio, headed by Grammer. Bomer plays Hollywood Golden Boy and Grammer’s protege; the two men represent different times, disagreeing on the way the studio should be handled. Originally developed for HBO, the pilot was written and directed by Billy Ray.

The Last Tycoon will compete with a handful of other shows, all to be released on June 17, and user feedback will determine which shows move on to series. Other shows to debut June 17 include The Interestings, about a group of artsy kids who meet at summer camp, and six kids shows, one of which is live-action. Series developed for Amazon are only available to Amazon Prime members.
