Ludacris Talks Ending the Fast and Furious Film Series

In an interview with guest host Tiffany Haddish on Ellen, Ludacris (Christopher Bridges) discussed how he felt about the Fast and Furious series ending.

Last month it was announced that rather than ending the series with Fast & Furious 10 as was initially planned, Universal Pictures will be making an eleventh film and supposedly final film in the series. Ludacris says he’s not sad about the series ending because, “they just announced that we’re going to end on 10 and 11.” He added that “personally I thought we were going to end on 10 but I’m not at all sad about it because you got to think about, I came out in 2 Fast 2 Furious. We never knew we would get a callback from 5, now I’ve been in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. And now they’re telling me there’s going to be two more? I’m happy! To hell with being sad, don’t be sad! Be happy.”

Now instead of two, there are three upcoming Fast and Furious movies. While Ludacris has various other acting credits including Crash (2004), Gamer (2009), and New Year’s Eve (2011), he remains best known for his role in the Fat and Furious franchise.

While Ludacris made his series debut in 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003, it wasn’t until Fast Five in 2011 that he came to feature regularly, with his character Tej Parker acting as mechanic and tech guy. If Ludacris stars in both 10 and 11, he will have been a part of seven Fast & Furious movies total.

F9 was originally slated to debut back in April but was delayed due to the pandemic. The film’s trailer showed us that it will also include Lucas Black and Jason Tobin both of whom first featured in The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The first trailer also revealed that Sung Kang‘s Han Lue, who was ostensibly killed in Tokyo Drift, is still alive. The plot of F9 will follow the team up against John Cena’s villain Jakob Toretto, Dom (Vin Deisel) and Mia (Jordana Brewster) Toretto’s brother who is an agent of Charlize Theron‘s Cipher.

Daniel Casey wrote the script for F9, which was director Justin Lin’s fifth Fast & Furious movie. Lin is also expected to direct 10 and 11.
