Vin Diesel Confirms Filming on Fast 10 is Beginning

Vin Diesel has officially announced to his fans on Instagram that Fast & Furious 10 will start shooting.

One of America’s favorite action heroes, Dominic Toretto, will be returning to movie screens in Fast & Furious 10 next year. Vin Diesel, who plays Toretto, announced this news on Instagram with a picture that showed him getting into the racing mood at a NASCAR event that he attended with his kids.

Director Justin Lin has confirmed that the 10th film in the enormously popular action franchise will be a two-part movie-going event. Remember when the last films in the Twilight and Harry Potter franchises broke themselves up into two parts? Well, this is going to be a similar situation.

Also noteworthy is that another macho action star, Jason Momoa (Aquaman), is going to be playing the central villain in the new Fast picture. Meanwhile, returning cast members include: Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, and Sung Kang.

At the end of F9: The Fast Saga, someone had arrived to eat with the “family” that is assembled in this franchise (the characters portrayed by Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, etc.). It seemed that this someone is actually Paul Walker (the beloved star of the earlier Fast film)’s character Brian O’Conner. Walker sadly passed away in November of 2013 but the franchise has still kept his spirit alive by keeping his character constantly mentioned in the film series.

Vin Diesel’s Toretto has remained the most popular character in the recent Fast films especially when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham branched out into a spin-off movie called Hobbs & Shaw. Unfortunately, it was reported that Johnson and Diesel got into a “feud” regarding these Fast movies and probably won’t be appearing on screen together anytime soon.

Nevertheless, F9: The Fast Saga did just fine at the U.S. box-office earning $173 million domestically during a pandemic and $553 million internationally. That picture earned a “B+” CinemaScore which means the series could do a little bit better pleasing fans from an artistic standpoint but the box-office performance also suggests that the franchise isn’t losing much steam from a financial perspective.

While it’s uncertain if we’ll get more of Paul Walker’s Brian either discussed or seen in the upcoming 10th film in the series, Jason Momoa’s presence as the baddie in the movie has added a great deal of curiosity factor to the project much like how John Cena’s appearance in F9: The Fast Saga kept it fresh and interesting for fans. Fast & Furious 10 is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on May 19, 2023.
