FAST X: PART 2 (2025): Budget Cuts May Help Make Sequel Vin Diesel’s Last Hurrah and Excuse Jason Momoa from Last Film in Franchise

Vin Diesel Fast X

11th Film in Fast Saga Could Mark the End of the Road for Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel may find that his role in Fast X: Part 2 is the last time he will be playing Dom Toretto in the popular series.

Fast X seemed like a box-office hit to people on the outside looking in. It made $704 million worldwide but, please, stop the presses because only $146 million of that came from domestic ticket sales and the film’s budget was north of $300 million. It has come as no surprise that in order to realistically budget the next movie in the franchise, Fast X: Part 2, Jason Momoa’s villain role will have to be reconsidered as will the use of Diesel past this next 11th picture in the series of the Fast movie saga.

CinemaScore audiences weren’t as wild for Fast X as they could have been, either, judging from its just “OK” for the franchise “B+” CinemaScore mark. What does this mean for the 11th picture in the franchise? Well, it appears the expensive Jason Momoa will be part of a new spin-off of the Fast series alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. That one will probably release before Fast X: Part 2 and act as a segue into the 11th picture of the series. The Momoa/Johnson vehicle will help explain Momoa’s absence in Fast X: Part 2.

Diesel has appeared in the 10 previous Fast pictures but this new 2025 sequel will most likely be his last hurrah. While it will also probably remind us of Brian (Paul Walker) from the Fast movies as well, little is known at this point how Fast X: Part 2 will deal with the now deceased Walker’s character once and for all.

The 11th Fast film probably won’t have wall-to-wall action. Instead the movie promises a couple of major action set pieces to soothe over fans who turn out to see it.  Diesel had been optimistic that they would have spread out Fast X into three parts rather than just two but it now seems that will not be the case in actuality.

The budget will drop a third of Fast X‘s $300 million budget for the last movie in the series and come in somewhere around $200 million. Director Louis Leterrier has not yet spoken out on this matter, nor has Universal so this information is purely speculative at this particular juncture in time.

Fast X ended with an edge of your seat cliffhanger but that story line may be resolved in the Momoa/Johnson picture on the horizon. Johnson will reprise his role as Luke Hobbs in the spin-off movie titled Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Reyes. Momoa’s villainous character accounts for, of course, the Reyes part of that title. Johnson and Vin Diesel made up after some arguments between them which arose over the years.

At this time, expect some or all of this to be entirely true but, as of now, keep an open mind until the official word is revealed regarding Fast X: Part 2′s fate. As of now, it is due some time in 2025.
