NAUGHTY: Olivia Wilde Set to Return Behind the Camera to Direct Holiday-Themed Film

Olivia Wilde Dont Worry Darling

Olivia Wilde Back in the Director’s Seat

Actress turned filmmaker, Olivia Wilde, is set to return to the director’s chair with a holiday comedy titled, Naughty.

A new forthcoming film, Naughty, is slated to be produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company. It will be helmed by none other than Booksmart alumni, Olivia Wilde. This upcoming Christmas film will revolve around a single mom who must enlist Santa Claus to testify on her behalf in court in order to be granted custody of her son. This mom has a pathetic boyfriend in the picture which has been described by its creator, Jimmy Warden (who also wrote Cocaine Bear) as a sort of variation of the box-office smash, Bridesmaids.

Wilde has had a couple of interesting projects over the past few years. She has a directorial flair that makes her one of the most constantly intriguing female directors working today. Her last film, Don’t Worry Darling, was a game-changer with its intelligent and timely story line. Though it made just an OK $45 million domestically, it performed almost equally as well overseas with its total gross being over $87 million. The movie had a lot of buzz surrounding its cast (which included Florence Pugh and Harry Styles) as well as its controversial plot which was complete with several plot twists.

Booksmart came out in 2019 and proved Wilde could direct a sharp, witty comedy that had a keen sense of style. That hilarious picture earned a respectable $22 million domestically, a solid “B+” CinemaScore grade and the movie put actresses Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein on the map as talents to be reckoned with.

Don’t Worry Darling divided critics and audiences alike with its daring premise. One could probably see some parallels between its sets and those of the soon-to-be Oscar-nominated box office hit, Barbie. Both pictures had spectacular sets which showcased a seemingly friendly community that shelters its residents from the harsh realities of the world. Don’t Worry Darling took many big risks and won itself both fans and detractors. It was undeniably a very creative film full of intense thrills and dramatic tension.

Wilde also chooses very intriguing projects to appear in as an actress. Two of her most compelling roles were in the independent films, Third Person and A Vigilante. She had a small role in Don’t Worry Darling. Her work as a director shows much promise for the future based on her previous two feature films and it is likely that Naughty could be the type of holiday movie to play not only during Christmas-time but during other times of the year equally as well.
