Oscar Winner Penélope Cruz to Be Featured in New Olivia Wilde Comedy

Penélope Cruz is among the major stars to be showcased in filmmaker Olivia Wilde‘s upcoming relationship comedy, The Invite.

Academy Award winner for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Penélope Cruz, recently wowed audiences with her remarkable, commanding performance in the intriguing dramatic film, Ferrari. Now, she will be co-starring alongside the likes of Pineapple Express star, Seth Rogen, and recent Oscar nominee, Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), in director Olivia Wilde’s forthcoming picture titled, The Invite. Wilde will also play a role, herself, in the new movie which has already begun principal shooting in L.A.

Rashida Jones and Will McCormack will be penning the script for the intelligent and humorous, The Invite which is based upon the Spanish film, Sentimental, from Cesc Gay. This film’s premise involves a couple inviting the neighbors over and the story sees some intriguing plot developments from there in regards to the film’s take on emotional and sexual relationships. This kind of risque material is nothing new to Wilde who has never been afraid to take risks in terms of the films she’s worked on as both an actress and a director. FilmNation and Annapurna Pictures will be the companies backing the new film.

Seth Rogen is coming off his interesting supporting turn in The Fabelmans from a few years back and is poised to make a major comeback with his role in this new Olivia Wilde production. Cruz and Norton, however, remain the upcoming movie’s most valuable players given their history as multi-time Oscar nominees. In addition, Wilde could find herself getting some serious recognition for either her direction or acting in The Invite.

Wilde has previously directed Don’t Worry Darling and Booksmart. Both of these movies weren’t enormous hits, but did well enough with critics and audiences to prove that Wilde could roll with those high-profile directors who aren’t afraid of doing something different. Wilde will be featured in another new upcoming movie called, I Want Your Sex, where she will play with music sensation, Charli XCX, and Cooper Hoffman.

Rogen and Wilde have both played on Rogen’s Apple TV+ show, The Studio. However, one can expect Cruz to be the most talked-about person who will be appearing in The Invite. Cruz carefully selects each role she does and excels in pretty much every part she takes on. In Parallel Mothers from a few years back, the actress wowed audiences in such a way that suggests she will be coming for another Oscar win in the not-too-distant future. She came close to securing an Oscar nod for Ferrari and received a SAG nomination for her compelling role in that picture.
