PARIS PARAMOUNT: Penelope Cruz in Negotiations for a Role in Nancy Meyers’ Upcoming Netflix Film

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz in Talks to Appear in Nancy Meyers Film

Oscar winner Penelope Cruz has become immersed in negotiations to appear in the upcoming Nancy Meyers Netflix film, Paris Paramount.

Penelope Cruz was nominated for an Oscar for her work in 2021’s breathtaking and dramatic Pedro Almodovar film, Parallel Mothers but may be en route to a more comical film if she takes a role in Nancy Meyers’ forthcoming picture, Paris Paramount. The Academy Award winning Cruz won her Oscar for her work in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona and has a history of doing comedy which would make her a natural choice for Meyers’ sure-to-be star-studded affair. Other stars who are also negotiating parts in Meyers’ film include Michael Fassbender, Owen Wilson and Scarlett Johansson.

Cruz is certainly not an actress who rests on her laurels. After her Oscar-nominated work in the aforementioned 2021 movie, she has appeared in two more independent movies that have since been seen by critics: Official Competition and L’immensità. Those films also garnered more nice reviews for the actress. And, as you may have guessed, the hard-working Cruz also has another project in the works: Michael Mann’s Ferrari which will co-star Adam Driver.

This upcoming Nancy Meyers Netflix movie is rumored to have a budget at well over $100 million but given Meyers’ track record of hits like The Holiday and The Intern, it’s no wonder the streamer is trusting the director with such a big budget. It may turn out that Paris Paramount could become one of Meyers’ most seen films if the cast in talks actually makes it into fruition. Especially Cruz.

When Vanilla Sky came out in 2001, Cruz was a major sex symbol (she still is, actually) playing opposite Tom Cruise in a big box-office hit. Although, Cruz may have a huge fan base from her Pedro Almodovar movies, she also has a considerable amount of people who remember her and her great line of dialogue from that 2001 Cruise film: “Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.”

Scarlett Johansson, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson are old pros and have plenty of great films under their belts. Johansson’s biggest claims to fame are Lost in Translation and Black Widow. Fassbender’s most notable role was in the great Steve McQueen film, Shame, and Wilson’s biggest accomplishments have been Wedding Crashers and his assortment of roles in Wes Anderson movies.

It is almost certain that if Cruz comes onboard the upcoming Meyers movie, there will be a lot of potential Oscar buzz for the actress. The last time she appeared in an elegant ensemble film, she walked away with an Academy Award. Could it happen again? And to pay homage to a line Chris Rock said during last year’s Oscars, If Penelope Cruz loses (this part), audiences can’t win. So let’s hope she gets the role and succeeds!
