Anthony Ramos To Co-Star in Forthcoming Netflix Drama

Anthony Ramos of Twisters fame is slated to appear in Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow‘s latest film which is a yet untitled political drama for Netflix.

Just when you thought Anthony Ramos was about to crowned the “King” of summer action pictures, he has joined the cast of a Netflix film from a very distinguished Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Ramos previously appeared in back-to-back summer movies from the past two years, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Twisters. A little more than a couple of years ago, he made an appearance in the critically acclaimed musical, In the Heights. He’s certainly been on a roll.

The cast of director Bigelow’s dramatic picture which is on the horizon reads like a Who’s Who of underappreciated performers working today: Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Tracy Letts, Moses Ingram and Gabriel Basso. Joining them now is Ramos. Set at the White House, and directed by Bigelow, one can expect a volatile political drama at the very least.

Bigelow made the 2017 underrated gem, Detroit, but her original forte was the type of unique movies that she made when she worked on great, fascinating projects in the 1980’s and 1990’s such as Near Dark and Strange Days. 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty retained Bigelow’s name as one of the definitive female voices in cinema after her Oscar win for The Hurt Locker from 2009. To hear the news of Bigelow’s re-emergence in cinema after a seven-year absence has definitely piqued the curiosity of her fans in regards to her next project.

Ramos was in Twisters this past summer, a film which catapulted him back into the limelight after the previous summer’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performed decently at the box-office. In Twisters, Ramos played with the likes of other up-and-coming names like Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. The result was a hit which made $267 million domestically or about $110 million more than the hit Transformers movie made domestically in 2023.

There’s no question that Ramos stole the show in certain scenes in Twisters but, now, he’s also slowly building a body of dramatic work which can make one realize he’s one of our most under-appreciated young actors. In the Heights solidified his abilities to play a leading man who the audience could respect and relate to while his action pictures proved he could hold his own against other big performers and a slew of special effects which were interwoven all around him. While there has been no revealing of what type of role he’s playing in Bigelow’s film, the news of his presence alone has commanded the attention of both Bigelow and Ramos fans who will certainly watch the picture when it eventually premieres on Netflix.
