GOOD SEX: Natalie Portman Cast in Lena Dunham’s Forthcoming Romantic Comedy

Natalie Portman May December

Natalie Portman is Starring in a New Rom-Com

Lena Dunham is going to be directing Oscar winner Natalie Portman in a forthcoming romantic comedy about relationships titled, Good Sex.

Natalie Portman has come on board the cast of Lena Dunham (Girls)’s new upcoming rom-com, Good Sex. Dunham has created the script on which the movie will be based. This is a high-concept film idea that will certainly challenge audiences in a provocative way with its very intriguing topic of romantic dating prospects for a professional lady in her early 40’s. Portman is no stranger to taking on risky roles as proven in her work in the critical hits, May December and Black Swan, the latter for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Portman’s role in Good Sex will challenge her immensely as an actress and as an artist and she is also co-producing this new project for FilmNation.

May December featured Portman as an actress trying to recreate the role of a woman who had sex with a much younger boy. This time out, the subject matter will also be controversial but maybe not as much as the volatile story line of May December was. Good Sex will be a New York-based comedy about a female couples’ therapist (to be played by Portman, of course) turning 40 who takes on a relationship with a younger man from Brooklyn who is about half her age and, also, one with another man who is slightly older than her by about 10 years. This will create a love triangle within the story line that Dunham should be able to navigate with great precision since she knows tales like this one just like the back of her hand judging from her previous work.

This forthcoming project is the type of neurotic New York comedy that hasn’t been done in quite some time. Sure, the upcoming Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is going to have Renee Zellweger dating a younger man but the ever-surprising Lena Dunham didn’t write that one. This new film, Good Sex, is going to be coming from the pen of Dunham, one of the smartest working writers today. Expect this new Portman movie to, perhaps initially, make audiences a little uncomfortable but that is what the movie seems to be aiming for just a bit. C’mon, look at the title itself. It alone spells controversy even in this modern age.

Nicole Kidman just did the older woman/younger man thing with her film, Babygirl, but that one was a thriller. Good Sex is seeking to be a little bit lighter but is still hoping to be an insightful dramatic comedy that will appeal to people in their 40’s and 50’s above all else. While it appears Good Sex could play beyond the art house crowd judging from the talent involved, they may want to change the title if they expect this upcoming project to be released wide theatrically. What do you think? It hasn’t been announced yet who will be playing the male roles in the sure-to-be compelling picture.
