News Brief about: Pirates of the Caribbean circles Reboot; The Walking Dead Ratings Slip; Apple Streaming Service Global Rollout, and More
In brief, new movie news and television show news has broken. Below you will find a brief rundown on all that news and their most significant segments, distilled down to the most salient information.
The Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise may be Rebooted
The Walt Disney Company has met with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to write the screenplay for a reboot of the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. There is no word yet if Johnny Depp will return.
The Walking Dead’s Ratings Continue Decline
The ratings for The Walking Dead‘s current season has been a mixed bag.
While overall viewership was up 2% to 5 million on October 21, the Live+Same Day results among adults 18-49 were a declining 1.94. Against a season low Sunday Night Football, that stumble took the once highest-rated show on TV among the key demo down 3% from the previous series low of October 14’s “The Bridge” episode. The 18-49 result also saw a fall of 50% from what the Greg Nicotero-directed third episode of Season 8 snagged on November 5, 2017.
As in previous weeks this season, and likely eating into ratings results for the show, TWD’s poignantly titled “Warning Signs” was available beforehand on the no-ad AMC Premiere service. Coming off respective 49% and 60% Live+3 rises for the low Season 9 debut of October 7, it is clear that the additional subscription service and delayed viewing is where TWD and AMC are putting their emphasis.
Starz Comes to Hulu Ahead of Outlander’s Fourth Season
Starz, Starz Encore, and all of their original TV series programming episodes are now available on Hulu to that services subscribers. Starz’ programming will be available through Hulu as a premium add-on for an additional $8.99 a month.
This is all ahead of Outlander‘s Season 4 premiere on November 4, 2018.
Apple Streaming Service Gets Global Rollout
Apple will be giving its upcoming TV subscription streaming service global rollout, splashing onto the international market place with the flair of well-established Netflix. Apple’s TV subscription streaming service will premiere in more than 100 countries and will be free to Apple products owners.
