Dare Me gets TV Series Order By USA Network and Netflix

USA ADAPTS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED MEGAN ABBOTT MYSTERY “DARE ME” TO SERIES

USA Network announced a series pickup for Dare Me from UCP in association with Film 44. Based on the acclaimed novel by Megan Abbott, who serves as writer and executive producer along with Gina Fattore (Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls, Californication”), Dare Me is an unflinching exploration of teen angst, jealousy, loyalty, and the dynamics of power in a small Midwestern town. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) and Michael Lombardo of Film 44, Sarah Condon and Karen Rosenfelt executive produce. Netflix will co-produce and have first-run rights to the series outside of the U.S.

Peering behind the all-American facade, the series dives into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading. It follows the fraught relationship between two best friends (Herizen Guardiola and Marlo Kelly) after a new coach (Willa Fitzgerald) arrives to bring their team to prominence. While the girls’ friendship is put to the test, their young lives are changed forever when a shocking crime rocks their quiet suburban world. Part coming-of-age story, part small-town drama, part murder mystery, Dare Me exposes the physical and psychological extremes that some young women are willing to endure in order to get ahead. Academy Award-nominated director Steph Green (The Americans) directed and executive produced the pilot.

“Megan Abbott’s voice brings a fresh perspective to USA Network, with a gripping, female-focused story that combines the ultra-competitive world of high school cheerleading with the secrets of a seemingly-perfect small American town,” said Chris McCumber, President, USA Network and SYFY.

The Stand TV adaptation Acquired by CBS All Access

CBS ALL ACCESS ORDERS STEPHEN KING’S “THE STAND” TO SERIES

Josh Boone and Ben Cavell to Write and Executive Produce

Series to Be Produced by CBS Television Studios

Jan. 30, 2019 – CBS All Access, CBS’ digital subscription video-on-demand and live streaming service, today announced a new 10-episode order for the original limited event series THE STAND, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name. The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios. Josh Boone and Ben Cavell will write and executive produce THE STAND. Josh Boone will also direct. Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller, and Richard P. Rubinstein will also serve as executive producers with Will Weiske and Miri Yoon as co-executive producers and Owen King as producer.

THE STAND is Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

“I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform,” said Stephen King. “The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

“I read The Stand under my bed when I was 12, and my Baptist parents burned it in our fireplace upon discovery. Incensed, I stole my Dad’s FedEx account number and mailed King a letter professing my love for his work. Several weeks later, I came home to find a box had arrived from Maine, and inside were several books, each inscribed with a beautiful note from god himself, who encouraged me in my writing and thanked me for being a fan,” said Josh Boone. “My parents, genuinely moved by King’s kindness and generosity, lifted the ban on his books that very day. I wrote King a cameo as himself in my first film and have been working to bring The Stand to the screen for five years. I’ve found incredible partners in CBS All Access and Ben Cavell. Together with Stephen King, Owen King, my longtime producing partners Knate Lee and Jill Killington, we plan to bring you the ultimate version of King’s masterwork.”

“With over 400 million books sold around the world, Stephen King is one of our greatest living authors and ‘The Stand’ is widely considered the crown jewel of his work. Millions of fans have been waiting for a modern interpretation that delivers on its depth, scope, and ambition,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President, Original Content, CBS All Access. “We are thrilled to be working with Stephen, Josh, Ben and a dedicated team working passionately to bring this brilliant material to life.”

THE STAND joins CBS All Access’ growing slate of original series which currently include THE GOOD FIGHT, NO ACTIVITY, STRANGE ANGEL and TELL ME A STORY. CBS All Access’ slate of original series will continue to expand with the addition of the previously announced reimagining of THE TWILIGHT ZONE and the new series WHY WOMEN KILL, with additional programming to be announced. CBS All Access is also the exclusive domestic home to STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS and a new untitled “Star Trek” series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard.
