READY OR NOT 2: Samara Weaving Hints That a Sequel to 2019 Horror Film Could Happen
Ready or Not Sequel is Potentially in the Works
Samara Weaving has suggested that there is the intention to make a sequel to 2019’s hit horror film, Ready or Not.
It has been five years since the dark comedy/horror film, Ready or Not, surprisingly succeeded at the box-office. It won over audiences with its clever premise and scored a very respectable “B+” CinemaScore grade from opening night audiences. It earned a nice $28 million domestically and another $28 million from international markets. Its star, Samara Weaving, has a new film coming out called Azrael which she is currently promoting and during an interview, Weaving revealed that the sequel to the 2019 film is most likely going to happen.
Weaving also starred in the drama, Babylon, in 2022 which was a big budget flop that earned about half of what Ready or Not made from domestic markets. It’s uncertain as to what the plot of Ready or Not would be but there are several different possibilities, judging from the open-ended conclusion of the first film. In preliminary talks, Weaving revealed that an agreement was made that there would be the potential for a sequel in the not-too-distant future.
Searchlight Pictures released the first Ready or Not movie and the studio (which is now under Disney’s umbrella) should be eager to officially green-light the sequel. The 2019 picture has garnered much attention from people who have discovered the film after its initial theatrical release as well. It has become the definitive cat-and-mouse horror movie with its premise of a bride trying to survive a night with some crazy family members. Andie MacDowell co-starred in the 2019 picture as well.
It is also noteworthy that Weaving had a cameo in a recent Scream film as well which was made by the filmmakers (known as Radio Silence) of Ready or Not. She played in a few minutes of the sixth installment of the Scream series. Weaving has a knack for playing intriguing characters and her work in Ready or Not ranks as one of her most mainstream and relatable roles to date.
In Azrael, Weaving may find herself cast in another successful horror picture. Weaving plays a woman who escaped imprisonment and is being hunted as a result. This movie is set after the apocalypse. It’s a coin-toss as to how this movie will do financially opening against Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. However, Weaving has a built-in fan base thanks to her crowd-pleasing leading turn in Ready or Not which will guarantee interest in Azrael either on the big screen or when the film hits streaming.
