Robin Williams Dead at 63 From Self-Inflicted Hanging

Robin Williams Face Shot

Robin Williams is Dead by his Own Hand. Robin Williams’ battle with depression caused him to kill himself. It has been revealed that his death was self-inflicted and caused by hanging.”Robin Williams…was found by his personal assistant Monday morning in his Tiburon home, ‘slightly suspended in a seated position’ from a belt around his neck that was wedged between a closet door and the door frame, Marin County assistant chief deputy coroner Keith Boyd announced today at a news conference…He already was cold to the touch and rigor mortis had set in. Respondents also found “acute” cuts on the inside of his left wrist and a pocket knife nearby on which was found “dry red material” but those cuts were not the cause of death, Boyd said, explaining the preliminary results support the initial indication the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.”

On when the actor was found deceased on Monday:

The 911 call came in at 11:55 AM Monday by a “distraught” person who indicated apparent suicide due to hanging,” Boyd said. Emergency crew was dispatched at noon and Williams was pronounced dead at 12:02 PM. Williams was last seen alive at 10:30 PM Sunday when his wife retired for the evening in a room in the home.

I was dealing with non-FilmBook operations and found out about Robin Williams’ tragic demise after 11 pm yesterday evening. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it. Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s death dismayed me, but many knew of his substance abuse problems. When those facts were brought into the light, his cause of death was not far-fetched. Robin Williams taking his own life was and still is to me. Robin Williams, like Philip Seymour Hoffman, was powerful. He could create something out of thin air or take bland and make it standout.

There is a scene in Ms. Doubtfire where he impersonates three or four different personas and it was wonderful to watch, wonderful to see that ability breathe.

Many people get called genius. That term is thrown around so much when it is attached to something or someone, most people do not pay it much attention. When people call Robin Williams is genius it is wholly, 100% deserved and was visible in the mere fact that he could jump from comedy to dramas so seamlessly.

His fans, myself included, have all been robbed of a great entertainer and of future performances by him. Who knows what his crazy, zany mind might have come up with, what film roles he would have been offered or what parts he might have created. All we know is that he is gone and a ‘screen friend’ is no more.

I do not know why he took his life but I hope he is in a better place.
