Samuel L. Jackson Wouldn’t Mind a Sequel to 1996 Action Gem

Samuel L. Jackson has admitted that he wants a sequel to one of his best movies from the 1990’s, The Long Kiss Goodnight.

The Long Kiss Goodnight, directed by Renny Harlin was certainly one of 1996’s most underappreciated action movies and was an explosive roller coaster ride that audiences who saw it absolutely loved. It received an “A-” CinemaScore and that minus was probably just because the movie was a bit violent with a lot of profanity. Other than that, it was a fabulous ride that starred Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. It has been revealed that Jackson would love it if a sequel was made even after all these years. One problem, though: The original only made $33 million at the domestic box-office.

Jackson almost didn’t get cast in the original movie at all. The first drafts of the script had more of a love connection between its hit woman with amnesia, Charly (Davis), and Jackson’s character, Mitch. When Jackson met Harlin at a party and wondered why he couldn’t get a part in the movie, Harlin ended up ultimately casting Jackson and the rest is history. Despite its paltry domestic take, The Long Kiss Goodnight earned an additional $56 million internationally and has won many fans throughout the years.

Davis’s Charly in the 1996 movie was a mom of a young girl. Charly told her daughter that “life is pain.” Through the events of the movie, Charly, her daughter and Mitch bonded while battling villains that would give those in any of the Die Hard movies a run for their money. Who can forget the scene at the end of The Long Kiss Goodnight when the characters are driving by the Canadian border and cars blow up left and right? Yvonne Zima played Charly’s daughter, Caitlin, and she did a great job in the movie as her character pressured her mom to save the day after Charly became severely injured. It all concluded in one of the most explosive endings in action movie history.

The best part of the New Line Cinema release, The Long Kiss Goodnight was when Samuel L. Jackson screamed out, “That’s right. You can’t kill me, Motherfu–ers.” That terrific scene occurred during the picture’s action-packed climax. It would be great to see Jackson reprise his role as Mitch. Renny Harlin had been one of Hollywood’s great action directors in the 1990’s. If a sequel was made to The Long Kiss Goodnight, it would also remind people of the original movie which is an action picture classic that didn’t do as well as it should have at the box-office when it was first released. Samuel L. Jackson is certainly up for it!
