STAR WARS: Donald Glover Says Lando Is More “Complicated” Than Han Solo
Donald Glover Discusses Playing Lando In The Upcoming Han Solo Star Wars Film
Golden Globe-nominated Atlanta star Donald Glover claims Lando Calrissian is a “more complicated” character than Han Solo in the planned Star Wars anthology film.
A familiar face on both the big and small screen, Glover has appeared in a litany of noteworthy productions. Getting his start as a writer for 30 Rock, the comedian soon became most known to audiences as Troy Barnes on another popular NBC sitcom, Community. Films he has played roles in include Magic Mike XXL, The Martian, and the upcoming Marvel superhero reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, the Cloud City-dwelling smuggler has become a Star Wars fan favorite since his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back and will make only his second appearance in the proposed Han Solo spin-off. Taking place well before the events of that movie, both Solo and Calrissian will be shown as younger than viewers are used to seeing them.

Later in the interview, the actor also took some time to reflect on Lando’s enduring popularity among fans, saying, “Lando seems to be a lot of people’s favorite character. It’s cool. It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s also very exciting. He was my favorite character too. I grew up on Star Wars. It’s just cool to see him again. I feel like people like him ’cause he has a lot of style, but also he’s a complicated character in this world. I think even Han isn’t as complicated as Lando is. From the first time you meet him, you don’t know whether to trust him or not, and you’re constantly not knowing whether to trust him. I like that about him.”
