Star Wars: Episode IX’s Colin Trevorrow Addresses Losing Carrie Fisher

December will be very a emotional month for Star Wars fans as they will be saying goodbye to Carrie Fisher in her final screen role as General Leia in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With Colin Trevorrow directing Star Wars: Episode IX, he will have a hard task of continuing the story without Fisher.

Cinema Blend had a chat with Trevorrow on the challenge of making a Star Wars film without Fisher as the director is aware how overwhelming that task is. Here’s what he said:

She was a major character, that’s not a secret. She really was. And it was extremely sad for all of us, mostly just because she was so loved by the Star Wars family and everyone that worked with her. I feel like our options are limited mostly by ourselves, in that there is only certain things that we are willing to do. But I can guarantee it will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves.

Even though he didn’t get a chance to work with Fisher before she passed, Trevorrow’s words does resonate with a statement shared by fans around the world: Carrie Fisher’s legacy deserves to be carried on with love, respect, and soul. Despite readjusting the script for the film to accommodate for Carrie’s passing, it looks like she’ll always be on Trevorrow’s mind as he sets up another chapter in the Star Wars saga.
