This brings him the main focus of the featurette – BB-8. It was “real important to make BB-8 as real as possible.”

John Boyega says, “BB-8 is so charismatic, a little bit feisty, I’m starting to wonder whether R2-D2 is a distant cousin.”

Oscar Isaac speaks about BB-8’s design, calling it “ingenious, because it feels like I’ve seen it before. It feels like its familiar in a Star Wars universe. But its not. Its completely new.”

Neal Scanlan, head of Creature Shop, tells the story of how J.J. Abrams sketched BB-8 on a napkin and that’s how the preliminary stages of design began.

Daisy Ridley mentions how BB-8 was a real character whom she’d have scenes with, and she was nervous to do so.

J.J. Abrams mentions how Daisy Ridley and John Boyega look at BB-8 as a co-star.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
