Thoughts

The ending shot in this trailer where it looks as though Rey has turned to the Dark Side is obviously a dream sequence. It is also theater seat-bait and click-bait. The producers put that in, obviously and wisely, to get butts in the seats for their final film in this Star Wars trilogy. Rey will never turn to the dark side. Never. Not only do Star Wars‘ producers lack the ingenuity to crafty such a plot twist, they lack the fortitude to actually execute it. In addition, there has been zero foundation for such a change. They ruined that in The Last Jedi (along with many other things).

I can’t believe that they are going to finally have Rey train as a potential Jedi in the final film in the trilogy. Why didn’t she train in The Last Jedi? This is retconning at its most dismal. You can’t make up or clean up the mistakes in The Last Jedi with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It doesn’t work that way nor should it be that way.

Star Wars‘ producers should have had the entire trilogy laid out from the beginning. They didn’t and after the disaster of The Last Jedi, they are trying to fix glaring mistakes, do what should have been done in the last film, all while trying to tell a credible story in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Emperor being in this film is a complete joke. Ryan Johnson never should have killed off Snook in The Last Jedi. A plethora of people said after that happened that the third film would need a new Big Bad. They posited that Kylo Ren was an empty emo kid that could never be the main threat. Some suggested the Emperor would be used. I laughed that off until the first teaser trailer for The Rise of Skywalker dropped.

I couldn’t believe that trailer and I can’t believe this one. What a mess.
