THE BOY (2016) Movie Trailer: Lauren Cohan Babysits A Real Terror

The Boy Movie Trailer

The Boy Trailer. William Brent Bell‘s The Boy (2016) movie trailer stars Lauren CohanRupert Evans and Ben RobsonThe Boy‘s plot synopsis: “An American nanny is shocked that her new English family’s boy is actually a life-sized doll. After violating a list of strict rules, disturbing events make her believe that the doll is really alive.”

I can see the edges on this thing – some of the acting, the somewhat generic plot, the retread of ‘X is not what it seems, let’s uncover the past’ – I see all of those weaknesses, yet I’m still onboard for this. I think what initially got me was how daring it seems to have a ridiculous doll as the object of terror. The initial chuckle of Cohan’s, at the parents, for introducing her to the boy – I like the awareness, coupled with the lighthearted music. The filmmakers seem to be saying, “We know. This is hilarious, right? Let’s see if we can scare you anyway.” I love that confidence, and hope that they can. Plus, I’ll watch any horror film as long as its above C-movie shlock – The Boy seems to be high above this based on visuals and casting, alone. I’ll be there.

On the other hand, I’m fairly certain this won’t rise above what it probably is – a very mediocre thriller. Horror is a minefield – taking a chance can blow up in your face pretty quickly. Only one in a million works perfectly. It’s the search for that one, that I watch all of them. Right now, this has all the potential in the world. I suppose we’ll see.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
