THE DINNER: Cate Blanchett makes Directional Debut with Adaptation

Cate Blanchett

The first film Cate Blanchett will direct is called The Dinner. It will be a psychological thriller with a script adapted from the famous book of the same name by Herman Koch. Blanchett has achieved many triumphs as an actress and she has decided to develop further her career in the industry.

Cate Blanchett has worked closely with a number of great directors like Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. She will be thoroughly prepared for a directing debut through the substantial knowledge she has gained through these exceptional film-makers. Her experience in theater, which has included the duties of a director, will be of considerable assistance to her as well.

The premise of The Dinner involves a couple whose criminal actions get recorded. The whole story gets resolved during a dinner. It sounds like an original and complex project that requires specific and creative vision. Great female actors have proven in the past to be extraordinary directors e.g. Sofia Coppola. If Cate Blanchett manages to transfer her vision to the screen as successfully as she plays her characters, The Dinner will certainly be very special.

Cate Blanchett recently stood out more noticeably in mainstream cinema by reprising her role as Galadriel in The Hobbit trilogy (2012-2014). The more recent performance that will most-likely land her numerous nominations is the one in Blue Jasmine. We are yet to see her performance in The Monuments Men, which is another highly expected motion picture this year. If her phenomenal acting in the Woody Allen film is any indication, she might very well garner some directing nominations if The Dinner proves as good enough when it is released.
