Mark L. Smith, most known for co-writing The Revenant, will both write the script and executive produce the film. The Hellfire Club novel, which was Tapper’s first novel, debuted in April 2018 at number 3 on the New York Times Best-Seller List for Hardcover Fiction and remained on the Best-Seller list for a month following its debut. The page-turning novel is an intense political thriller set in 1950’s Washington, DC, that tells the story of Charlie Marder, a freshman Congressman who finds himself and his wife, Margaret, forced into a world of secret societies, political corruption, scandals, and powerful leaders, after the mysterious death of his predecessor. The audience is taking on a stimulating roller coaster as Charlie and his wife struggle with navigating through his new untrustworthy and dangerous surroundings and having to fight for his principles and unfortunately, even his life.

HBO Max, who launches on May 27th, have ordered the script for the film, however they have yet to release a  production timeline, premier date, or any additional potential cast names as of now.
