Colman Domingo Cast in High-Profile Sci-Fi Movie Role

Colman Domingo has been cast in Edgar Wright‘s upcoming remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger science fiction movie, The Running Man.

Colman Domingo is a probable Oscar nominee for Best Actor for his work in last year’s dramatic gem, Sing Sing. He has also just been cast in the role of the deadly game show host in the highly anticipated forthcoming Glen Powell-starrer, The Running Man. This upcoming movie is slated for a November 2025 release and also features the likes of some other heavy-hitters in the supporting cast like Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, William H. Macy and Sean Hayes among others.

Based on a story by Stephen King (who wrote it under Richard Bachman, his alias), the original Arnold Schwarzenegger movie set itself in the year 2025 (very interesting, no?). It was an action-packed picture which was popular when it was released in 1987 and earned $38 million which was a decent amount of money back then for a movie to make although it was certainly no Total Recall which was a much bigger hit. The Running Man is about a reality game show on which its contestants must fight for their survival against vicious hunters who are out to get them. Josh Brolin will play a key villain in the new remake.

Colman Domingo needs no introduction. He’s been on a roll since co-starring in the indie movie, Zola, where he played an exploitative pimp. He’s gone on to receive accolades for movies like Rustin and Sing Sing. Richard Dawson originated the role that Domingo will be playing in The Running Man. Domingo proved in Zola that he has a definite wild side and he should definitely do this new role of his justice and then some.

With Glen Powell cast in the central lead role of The Running Man, industry insiders expect it to perform much better than the 1987 movie at the box-office. Powell excelled at the box-office in the Sony hit, Anyone but You and has proven himself as a heartthrob and an accomplished actor with his Golden Globe nominated turn in Hit Man.

Domingo has also recently been cast in Steven Spielberg’s latest movie project as well which begs the question if there’s anything that this remarkable actor cannot do. It’s certain the performer will come up with his own spin on the game show host in The Running Man and Domingo could find himself landing a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this would-be blockbuster if his superlative previous dramatic work is any indication of what is to come.
