THE WATCHERS (2024): Dakota Fanning Cast in Ishana Night Shyamalan’s Thriller

Dakota Fanning Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Dakota Fanning Added to Cast of Upcoming Thriller

Dakota Fanning will be starring in new director Ishana Night Shyamalan‘s forthcoming supernatural picture titled, The Watchers.

An A.M. Shine horror book will be adapted to the screen by Ishana Night Shyamalan in her feature film debut, The Watchers. One of the major stars of this film will be the always reliable young actress, Dakota Fanning. She will be portraying Mina, a 20-something artist who gets stuck in an Irish forest until she soon finds herself trapped with several people who are being stalked by some monsters. These creatures are creepily watching them; hence the film’s title.

Dakota Fanning made a name for herself as a child actress opposite Sean Penn in the heart-warming drama, I Am Sam which came out over 20 years ago. Fanning also starred with Tom Cruise in the science-fiction movie, War of the Worlds and, before that, excelled at laughs when she played with the late Brittany Murphy in the clever comedy, Uptown Girls. Fanning was in the film version of the family picture, The Cat in the Hat as well, not to mention the horror movie, Hide and Seek, where she starred with Robert De Niro in a truly frightening movie which may be the closest thing she has done in tone to her new role in The Watchers.

Fanning was recently cast opposite Denzel Washington in the 3rd film in The Equalizer franchise. She previously appeared with Denzel (also about 20 years ago) in Man on Fire and the latest The Equalizer picture promises to be a big action-packed hit at the box-office.

The Watchers, the latest film of Fanning’s which is in the works, marks a different type of role for the versatile Fanning. She was recently seen in Quentin Tarantino’s offbeat masterpiece, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, but Fanning hasn’t tackled too many scary movies like The Watchers before. It will be interesting to see how she does as some significant time has passed since the dark-themed Hide and Seek came out. The forthcoming thriller project of Fanning’s will be the debut feature of Ishana Night Shyamalan, as previously stated.

Fanning may just manage to carry the upcoming thriller picture towards success considering the quality of her past performances. The Watchers will be released by New Line Cinema and should start shooting some time around this summer and will be co-produced by Ishana Night Shyamalan’s dad– the new king of suspense pictures, M. Night Shyamalan. While M. Night Shyamalan has made duds like the recent Knock at the Cabin, he’s also directed twisty thrillers like The Sixth Sense and Old. Perhaps, his daughter will follow in the filmmaker’s footsteps as a unique talent to watch. It is hoping that The Watchers will be a June 2024 release.
