Ben Whishaw to Star in AMC, BBC Series ‘This Is Going to Hurt’

Ben Whishaw is set to star in the BBC adaptation of Adam Kay’s medical memoir ‘This is Going to Hurt’, which  is a series AMC will be co-producing.

Ben Whishaw is an Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor and has signed on to play the lead role of the series, which will have the same name as the best-selling memoir it is based off of. The memoir was written by Adam Kay, who is also adapting his book for the series. Whishaw is known for winning his awards for his role in the series ‘A Very English Scandal’ alongside Hugh Grant. In this eight-episode dramedy, Whishaw will portray Adam, a junior doctor as he makes his way through his hospitals hierarchy and indulges on the long hour work weeks. The series will show the highs and lows of working in a hospital all while trying to maintain a personal life.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Whishaw commented on his excitement for the series and comments that “its an honest, hilarious, heart-breaking look at the great institution and the army of unsung heroes who work there under the most stressful conditions. The COVID-19 crisis has now shed even more light on their great work and underlines the necessity to support the NHS and its workers.” The End of the F***cking World director, Lucy Forbes will helm the series as the lead director and producer.
