Swamp Thing, Stargirl, Dollface, and other TV Show Casting

Swamp Thing, Stargirl, Dollface, and other TV productions have made recent TV show casting, TV movie casting, and TV directing news. These shows and movies air on: DC Universe and Hulu. Beware of spoilers in these casting announcements.

Swamp Thing (DC Universe)

Virginia Madsen has been cast as Maria Sunderland, who traded in her privileged upbringing for the swamps of Marais when she married local business magnate Avery Sunderland (not yet cast), but Avery’s life-time obsession with the swamp has driven a wedge between him and Maria. Her poised existence is shaken further when the return of Abby Arcane reawakens a deep grief over the loss of Maria’s daughter, Shawna, drawing her into the dark supernatural mysteries emerging from the swamp.”

The actress joins already cast Crystal Reed and Maria Sten.

Swamp Thing‘s plot synopsis: “Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.”

Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman will write the screenplays for the series.

Len Wiseman will direct the pilot episode.

The TV series will premiere in 2019.

Stargirl (DC Universe)

Anjelika Washington has been cast in an unspecified role.

This actress joins already cast Brec Bassinger.

Stargirl‘s plot synopsis: “Stargirl will follows the story of Courtney Whitmore who is a smart, athletic and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

Geoff Johns will be writing the screenplays for the series.

Dollface (Hulu)

Kat Dennings has been cast as a “young woman (Dennings) who, after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend, must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, and rekindle the female friendships she left behind.”

Matt Spicer directed the pilot episode. Stephanie Laing will direct multiple episodes. Jordan Weiss created the series.

Woke (Hulu)

Lamorne Morris has been cast as Keef, a cartoonist living in San Francisco, “who’s finally on the cusp of mainstream success when an unexpected incident changes everything.”

Keith Knight and Marshall Todd wrote the initial project.

Mo Marable will direct the pilot episode.
