The Lord of the Rings, Prodigal Son, Shameless, Snowfall, Walker, Outer Range, Invincible, and Severance have made recent TV show casting, TV mini-series casting, TV movie casting, and TV directing news. Snowfall

Adrianna Mitchell has been cast as Tanosse, “a friend and former lover of Franklin’s who has an inherent sensuality about her. She too grew up in the neighborhood but these two haven’t seen each other in a while. Her older brother was a drug kingpin in the 70s and has since gone to prison for life. She has a working-class sophistication, charm and slight edge about her, but we can’t quite tell if she’s trustworthy.”

Walker

Gabriela Flores has been cast as Isabel, “Stella’s best friend, and Aura and Leonardo’s only child. She and Stella have a strong bond – and they’ve recently gotten into some trouble with the law.”

She joins already cast Keegan Allen and Jared Padalecki.

Walker‘s plot synopsis: the series “will explore morality, family and rediscovering our lost common ground.”

Outer Range

Imogen Poots has been cast as Autumn, “an itinerant woman who charms the Abbotts enough to let her camp on their land. A seeker of cosmic truths with a checkered past, she lives without regrets and embraces the unknown with reckless abandon.”

She joins already cast: Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, and Tom Pelphrey.

Outer Range‘s plot synopsis: “Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness.”

The Lord of The Rings

Amazon Studios today announces twenty additional cast members joining the ensemble cast of the Amazon Original series based on the iconic The Lord of the Rings novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. The newly revealed cast members will join the previously announced global cast and crew, currently filming in New Zealand.

The new cast members include Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Simon Merrells, Geoff Morrell, Peter Mullan, Lloyd Owen, Augustus Prew, Peter Tait, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker and Sara Zwangobani.

Blackburn, Chapman, Crum, Cunliffe, Tait, Tarrant and Wadham all hail from New Zealand, with the remaining international ensemble cast originating from Australia, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said: “The world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is epic, diverse, and filled with heart. These extraordinarily talented performers, hailing from across the globe, represent the culmination of a multi-year search to find brilliant and unique artists to bring that world to life anew. The international cast of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series is more than just an ensemble. It is a family. We are thrilled to welcome each of them to Middle-earth.”

As previously announced, the series is led by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay; they are joined by filmmaker J.A. Bayona, who is directing the first two episodes and serving as executive producer, alongside his creative partner Belén Atienza; with executive producers Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Callum Greene, Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill, Justin Doble and Sharon Tal Yguado.

The new cast members join Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman as announced earlier this year.

Set in Middle-earth, the television adaptation will explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. A world-renowned literary work, and winner of the International Fantasy Award and Prometheus Hall of Fame Award, The Lord of the Rings was named Amazon customers’ favorite book of the millennium in 1999 and Britain’s best-loved novel of all time in BBC’s The Big Read in 2003. The Lord of the Ringshas been translated into around 40 languages and has sold more than 150 million copies. Its theatrical adaptations from New Line Cinema and director Peter Jackson, earned a combined gross of nearly $6 billion worldwide and garnered 17 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture.

Invincible

Amazon Prime Video today unveiled additional talent names that will assemble to join the super-heroic voice cast of Amazon Original Invincible, including: Mahershala Ali as Titan, Clancy Brown as Damien Darkblood, Nicole Byer as Vanessa & Fiona, Jeffrey Donovan as Machine Head, Jonathan Groff as Rick Sheridan, Jon Hamm as Steve, Djimon Hounsou as Martian Emperor, and Ezra Miller as D.A. Sinclair. The announcement was part of the series’ panel at CCXP Worlds, which is now available to stream on CCXP’s official website. The eight-episode, hour-long animated series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories in 2021.

Invincible is produced by Skybound and executive produced by Kirkman, Simon Racioppa, David Alpert (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead), Catherine Winder (The Angry Birds Movie, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) with Supervising Directors Justin Allen & Chris Copeland (Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man), and Linda Lamontagne serving as casting director. Invincible, Kirkman’s second-longest comic-book series, concluded in February 2018 after a 15-year run.

Severance

Dichen Lachman has been cast as Ms. Casey, “an employee at Lumen Industries.”

She joins already cast: Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, John Turturro, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, and Zach Cherry.

Severance‘s plot synopsis: “Severance takes place at Lumen Industries, a company that’s looking to take work-life balance to a new level with a “severance procedure,” which separates work and out-of-work memories. Scott stars as Mark, an employee with a dark past trying to put himself back together.”

Dan Erickson wrote the screenplays for the Ben Stiller-directed TV series.

Prodigal Son

Christian Borle has been cast as Friar Pete. “A former friar ejected from his church for extremist views, Friar Pete is famous for a notorious killing spree that has landed him in the psychiatric ward with Martin (Michael Sheen). Friar Pete is a careful listener and offers respite to the other patients – and becomes a key consultant in Bright’s latest case.”

Michael Potts has been cast as Dr. Brandon Marsh, “Martin’s (Sheen) new therapist at Claremont who’s desperate to have a breakthrough with his psychiatric patients.”

Prodigal Son‘s plot synopsis: “The series follows Tom Payne’s Malcolm Bright, son of ‘The Surgeon’, played by Sheen, who as a child was responsible for enabling the police to arrest his father. He has not seen his father in ten years after joining Quantico. Now a profiler, formerly with the FBI, until he was fired, and currently consulting for the New York Police Department, Bright is forced to confront his father after a copycat serial killer uses Whitly’s methods of killing. He finds himself drawn back into constant contact with his father as he must both use Whitly’s insights to help the police solve particularly horrible crimes and battle his own inner demons.”

Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver write the screenplays for the TV series.

Shameless

Chelsea Alden has been cast as Tish, “who works as a cashier at a furniture store, where Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) rescues her from an irate customer.”

Shameless: Season 11’s plot synopsis: “The final season of Shameless finds the Gallagher family and the South Side at a crossroads, with changes caused by the Covid pandemic, gentrification and aging to reconcile. As Frank (Macy) confronts his own mortality and family ties in his alcoholic and drug-induced twilight years, Lip (Jeremy Allen White) struggles with the prospect of becoming the family’s new patriarch. Newlyweds Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mickey (Noel Fisher) are figuring out the rules and responsibilities of being in a committed relationship, while Deb (Emma Kenney) embraces her individuality and single motherhood.
