Upgrade Sequel TV Series Greenlit by Blumhouse Television

Blumhouse Television has greenlit the television sequel to the 2018 science-fiction film Upgrade. The TV series will pick up a number of years after the original film ended.

The plot synopsis to the film Upgrade: “After his wife is killed during a brutal mugging that also leaves him paralyzed, Grey Trace (Logan Marshall Green, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, PROMETHEUS) is approached by a billionaire inventor with an experimental cure that will “upgrade” his body. The cure – an Artificial Intelligence implant called STEM – gives Grey physical abilities beyond anything experienced and the ability to relentlessly claim vengeance against those who murdered his wife and left him for dead.”

The film’s director, Leigh Whannell, is returning to direct the TV series. He co-created the TV series with Tim Walsh.  Blumhouse Television and Universal Content Productions (UCP) are creating a writers’ room to craft story arcs and screenplays for the series. The current roster of the writers’ room includes: Whannell, Walsh, Krystal Ziv Houghton, and James Roland.

The plot synopsis of the TV show Upgrade: “Upgrade the series picks up a few years after the events of the film and broadens the universe with an evolved version of STEM and a new host – imagining a world in which the government repurposes STEM to help curb criminal activity.”

The TV production start date has not been scheduled, cast hasn’t been selected, and no premiere date has been announced.
