VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN (2015) Movie Trailer: James McAvoy is Dr. Frankenstein

Victor Frankenstein Trailer

Victor Frankenstein Movie Trailer. Paul McGuigan‘s Victor Frankenstein (2015) movie trailer stars James McAvoyDaniel RadcliffeJessica Brown Findlay, and Andrew ScottVictor Frankenstein‘s plot synopsis: “Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man – and the legend – we know today.”

We reported on this film a few weeks ago, when all we had were a few images. I was extremely excited at the prospects of this, loved the aesthetic gleamed from the production stills, was over the moon at the casting choices, and generally buzzing with excitement at the thought of a new Frankenstein film that takes itself seriously.

Today marks the end of that excitement. Well, not entirely. The tone of this trailer is the last thing I expected. It’s as if this took place in the same universe as Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes films, where any morbidity or seriousness is quickly undercut by a sarcastic, witty retort. It worked in those films, more or less, but its really not what I want to see in a “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein” adaptation. This is supposed to feel cold, dark, dirty, sad, scary.

What I do like is largely comprised of production design, creature effects, and the lovely actors coming together for this. Hopefully this trailer is marketed very specifically and somewhat incorrectly, and the film takes its subject matter a little more seriously. We shall see soon enough.

EDIT: Having just found out this film was written by none other than Max Landis, I have decided to limit my enthusiasm for this project to the bare minimum, as his personality has, unfortunately for him, tarnished my admiration for his work. I can only hear Landis’ annoying voice coming through these characters now, upon rewatching the trailer. Sheesh. Let’s hope the script is solid.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
