Warner Bros. Pulls the Plug on WONDER WOMAN 3 in its Current Embodiment

Wonder Woman 3 Not Moving Ahead at Warner Bros. Now

It has been revealed that the proposed third film in the Wonder Woman franchise will not be moving towards production.

Call it one of the most surprising developments to come from the aftermath of the pandemic. Though it wasn’t cited as a reason for putting a nail in Wonder Woman 3‘s coffin, Wonder Woman 1984 was a big disappointment from a critical and financial standpoint. Those financial problems with the last film’s box-office grosses had a lot to do with the pandemic which kept people from going to see it. In any event, filmmaker Patty Jenkins won’t soon get a chance to redeem herself with another Wonder Woman movie at Warner Bros. especially in its current state of being.

Newly appointed DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have a vision. They are starting fresh and seemingly want to guide the universe in a new direction. Gunn and Safran will soon meet with Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO to present their ultimate goals. Even before they meet, sources have revealed that the third Wonder Woman project is being scrapped from the proposed slate of movies.

It was also unveiled that financial constraints had not necessarily factored into the decision to pull the plug on Jenkins’ proposed film for which a treatment was recently submitted. However, not paying out the big salaries that were once expected for Jenkins and star Gal Gadot would, indeed, save the studio money.

Warner Bros. did not comment at this time. This news does not mean the franchise is dead. It may be reimagined at some point or Gadot’s character could appear in another type of DC movie though the Snyderverse, as it was known, will most likely fade away. Any future prospects for this Wonder Woman project are purely speculative at this particular moment.

At the same time, a potential sequel to Black Adam looks unlikely though that movie ended with a Superman cameo that may have been for a planned project which will not see the light of day. Remember, Batgirl was axed too and now, Wonder Woman 3. It’s a whole new world for DC and Warner Bros. although Matt Reeves is still working on a probable sequel to this year’s smash hit, The Batman.

While a lot of the development of future DC projects could depend on the box-office receipts of upcoming movies such as Shazaam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle, it does seem that Wonder Woman 3 will certainly not be on the horizon anytime soon unless its complete restructure happens and something of a small miracle occurs.
