Gal Gadot States Wonder Woman 3 is Happening…Again

Gal Gadot has said that Wonder Woman 3 is now in development over at DC after reports last year had stated that the project was cancelled.

Wonder Woman 3 is back on the table again! Gal Gadot has reported that DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing a new Wonder Woman film after all. This news comes as a relief to fans who learned last December that the plug had been pulled on the third movie in the popular superhero film series.

As Gunn and Safran start setting their strategy to save the DC universe into motion, a couple of female themed projects are brewing. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of them. Wonder Woman 3, it has been confirmed, is the other one. The news last year that a third installment of Wonder Woman wasn’t happening was a believable proposition when one considered the box-office gross of 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984. The film made a paltry $46 million at the domestic box-office.

The big problem with cancelling the third movie, though, was that 2020’s second film in the series was released at the height of a pandemic. If there were no pandemic or HBO Max, it is debatable that Wonder Woman 1984 could have approached 2017’s Wonder Woman’s $412 million domestic gross. Since we’ll never know, a third movie can help solve the problem for everyone. Of course, the reviews on the second film told the story that it wasn’t as good as the first one.

Gadot is currently promoting her upcoming movie which is going to premiere next week. It’s a Netflix action picture called Heart of Stone. She is also reportedly happy about the casting of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in DC’s upcoming Superman: Legacy project which is set for 2025.

Many people are wondering if Patty Jenkins will at all be involved in the next Wonder Woman film. Judging from the experience Jenkins has had with the last Wonder Woman picture flopping at the box-office, it doesn’t seem likely that she would return unless a good agreement was reached between her and Warner Bros./DC. It could be that the studios would want to start over with a new director although that assertion is purely speculative.

It is certain Gadot loves playing Wonder Woman. Whether she can use that passion to rejuvenate the franchise at the box-office is anybody’s guess. It would take the new film grossing $250 million at the domestic box-office to save face for the failure of Wonder Woman 1984.

The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing and The Authority are also in development over at DC as well. Can James Gunn and Peter Safran make up for the box-office disappointment of The Flash this summer with these films? We will see what happens in a year or two.
