Warner Bros. Shuffles Release Dates For Several Titles, Including MICKEY 17 and Long-Awaited THE BATMAN Sequel

Warner Bros. Shuffles the Release Dates of Some Very Big Titles
Warner Bros. has delayed The Batman sequel, moved up the release date for Mickey 17 and moved back Sinners while placing the Oscar bait Alejandro González Iñárritu/Tom Cruise movie with no title in The Batman‘s place.
It’s a game of movie release date shuffling for Warner Bros. as the studio has just announced that it is delaying the originally intended October 2026 release of The Batman to October 2027 instead. This news came as a surprise being that the first The Batman movie opened in 2022 and has been keeping DC fans antsy for its sequel for over two years. They’ll have to wait a year more than was expected now. The Batman star, Robert Pattinson, has a science fiction movie that was planned for Easter weekend called Mickey 17 but that picture, directed by Bong Joon Ho of Parasite fame, is coming out in March 2025 instead.
What’s coming out for Easter 2025 in place of Mickey 17? Good question. The answer is a movie from director Ryan Coogler called Sinners which just sounds like it belongs coming out on Easter weekend, for whatever reason. Michael B. Jordan will play twin brothers in the picture which co-stars True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld and Delroy Lindo.
Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Tom Cruise project has received much buzz and is sure to yield Oscar nods with a cast that includes the likes of Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed. Like what is expected with The Batman II, this Cruise project that is showcasing the versatile actor’s acting abilities will be shown in IMAX theaters in addition to regular ones. You can expect Oscar nominations with this 2026 movie whereas with The Batman II, to be directed by Matt Reeves, there was no guarantee of potential big Academy Award nominations outside of some major technical categories.
Judging from the previews, Mickey 17 is a very offbeat science fiction movie that looks like it has a compelling premise that is going to test the waters to see how mainstream audiences will accept a film that is anything but normal. Robert Pattinson will be playing a different spin on his heroic characters seen in other films this time out and, now with the change of release date, audiences will get to see this picture sooner than was anticipated. Keep in mind that Mickey 17 was originally supposed to open in January 2025 but we all know how that went.
While we will have to wait another year after the original unveiling date for The Batman II, Warner Bros. probably has good reasons for doing what they’ve done by shuffling the releases. Some of those reasons include making IMAX screens accessible for the right pictures at the right time which is always a challenge in this ever-changing industry. Look for Mickey 17 to be the first out of the gate (it has a March 7th unveiling) and The Batman II to be the last one out on this new list of Warner Bros. release dates.
