Practical Magic 2’s Release Date Moves Up a Week While Clayface Gets Pushed Back to October

Practical Magic 2 To Release a Week Earlier Than Originally Planned
Practical Magic 2 will be released on September 11th at theaters nationwide which is one week ahead of its originally scheduled unveiling date.
Practical Magic 2 wrapped filming over several months ago and, now, the release date has been moved up from September 18th to September 11th, 2026. This means the ultimate box-office fate of the much anticipated sequel will be determined way before this Halloween even arrives. Consequently, DC Studios’ would-be blockbuster, Clayface, which was originally slated for September 11th, will now be released on October 23rd which positions the Matt Reeves and James Gunn-produced picture to be the main big ticket item at movie theaters for the Halloween weekend.
Though Practical Magic 2 most likely won’t be around in many theaters come Halloween, it doesn’t have to be. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was released the week after Labor Day itself and made quite a killing at the domestic box-office back in 2024 Ultimately, it made most of its money before Halloween. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock will be reprising their “witchy” roles from 1998’s Practical Magic in this year’s follow-up sequel that is due out just before mid-September.
Technically, Practical Magic 2 will be a summer movie release although it’s anybody’s guess as to just how well it will do at the box-office when the final numbers are tallied. 1998’s original movie barely exceeded $46 million in its domestic run so it will take a minor miracle for the new film to best that total in terms of having a truly “magical” opening weekend ($50 million-plus).
Clayface has now become the film that will be associated with Halloween movie-going this fall. The pre-Halloween movie event of the year, Practical Magic 2, imagines a new story based on another Alice Hoffman book, The Book of Magic, and it will be interesting for the fans of the original film which the old movie slowly, but steadily, picked up throughout the 28 years since its initial release.
Co-starring in Practical Magic 2 will be old-timer stars from the original, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, as well as “newbies” to the franchise such as Joey King. Susanne Bier has helmed the witchcraft-showcasing sequel- she is taking over directorial detail from Griffin Dunne who made the 1998 original.
Warner Bros. is most likely looking to make these release dates profitable for both titles. Expect some serious marketing for both the Practical Magic sequel and Clayface, although they will probably appeal to two different demographics across the board. Many Practical Magic fans are expecting a much better sequel than the original film turned out to be. Kidman and Bullock have both won a Best Actress Oscar each since the release of the 1998 comedy film, Practical Magic. Their Oscars were for the dramatic films, The Hours and The Blind Side.
