Gremlins 3 Moving Forward for 2027 Release

It has been announced that the long-awaited sequel in the Gremlins franchise will be released by Warner Bros. on November 19, 2027.

Chris Columbus (Home Alone) will be in the director’s chair for the third Gremlins movie which is due out in November of 2027, just in time for the holiday movie season that year. Steven Spielberg will be executive producing the follow-up to 1990’s Gremlins 2: The New Batch which humorously featured the film critic Leonard Maltin and several other famous people in cameos. Columbus will be taking over directorial duties from former helmer, Joe Dante.

At this particular juncture, there is no availability on the proposed story line for the new Gremlins nor is there a cast list available at the present time. While the old stars, Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, are sure to be welcomed by viewers if they are able to reprise their roles from the old films, they haven’t been working in the movies too much nowadays. Columbus penned the original movie so many people are expecting he will stay true to the nature of the franchise with the latest entry in the series.

There were three rules with the Mogwai character, Gizmo, that were told to the human owner, Billy (Galligan). Those rules were as follows: No bright lights, don’t get him wet and don’t feed him after midnight. Of course, rules are made to be broken. Getting Gizmo wet ended up in the addition of several more mogwais. An evil mogwai known as Stripe helped pull the plug on a clock, so the creatures ate after midnight and became terrifying green monsters which, alongside Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, helped create the “PG-13” rating in the mid-1980’s.

Corey Feldman co-starred in the first Gremlins, and he recently made a quick exit in his appearance on the television reality show, “Dancing with the Stars.” Other than that, the other main stars of Gremlins have been missing in action for some time now, as far I know, at least.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch was less serious than the first one although it probably had just about as much violence as the first picture. It ultimately failed to catch fire at the box-office, but garnered cult status over the years.

The big question mark here is how many people will show up for the new Gremlins movie? We all know the 1980’s hit, Top Gun, spawned a massively successful sequel and that film didn’t even have cute creatures to market in the toy stores. It is likely Gremlins 3 will inspire plenty of adorable toys to make fans of the original want to buy one for their kids who they’ll probably take to see the new movie as long as they’re of the proper age to see the film.
