THE BATMAN PART II (2025): Upcoming Matt Reeves Sequel Moves Release Date Back a Year to 2026

Robert Pattinson No Costume The Batman

Release Date for The Batman Part II Jumps to 2026

The release date of the next Matt Reeves superhero film, The Batman Part II, has been delayed from 2025 to 2026.

Robert Pattinson’s next outing as Batman will not be coming out in 2025 as originally planned. Paul Dano, star of The Batman from 2022, recently spoke out against the abundance of superhero movies which were recently released in theaters. The new release date for Reeves’s highly anticipated sequel most likely hopes to distance The Batman away from other similarly-themed movies, one of which is coming out in 2025 from the same studio: Warner Bros.

While Dano, who played the Riddler in the first film, is certainly a fan of the critically acclaimed Matt Reeves movie, The Batman, in which Dano starred, he may have made some valid points in regards to the saturated market where it seemed for a while to many like we were getting a superhero movie coming out almost every other weekend. The new The Batman sequel has positioned itself for an October 2026 release.

Other superhero movie “tentpoles” coming out in 2025 include Marvel’s The Fantastic Four and Warner Bros’s own new Superman: Legacy film. Paul Dano is calling out for studios to “redefine” what audiences have come to know as a typical superhero movie. It is uncertain if Reeves’ new sequel can truly break the mold of what has come before it, but given the first film’s distinct originality, it is a definite possibility Reeves can make a groundbreaking superhero picture, even with a sequel.

Though The Batman Part II has been officially delayed, there is still the new $200 million Joker movie coming out later this year in October which will definitely be something quite unique as it is a musical. That’s more of an anti-superhero movie, to be sure, but its release will give viewers something different while preparing for the next Reeves The Batman film with Pattinson.

While the last The Batman movie played a lot like a David Fincher thriller at times throughout the picture, one can only wonder at this point what the next sequel will have in store for viewers. That Reeves picture earned a great $369 million domestically and collected another $402 million overseas.

October 2026 seems like a long time away and the sequel to The Batman will end up coming out around four-and-a-half years after the original. That’s plenty of time for audiences to miss seeing Pattinson play the Caped Crusader and for viewers to build up the desire for another Batman film, especially since they’ll never get to see Batgirl. But, that’s another story altogether.
